The Marianne symbol moves from the capsule to the cork stopper!
Amorim France unveils the first technical cork stopper featuring the Marianne emblem, fire-branded directly onto the cork. For the past few months, the familiar green fiscal seal and plastic or aluminium overcapsules have no longer been necessary: on every bottle of wine or sparkling wine, they can be replaced by a natural cork stopper.
Thanks to a partnership with 2Pack, a company based near Toulouse, Amorim France can now offer an approved marking validated by the French Directorate General of Customs and Indirect Taxes (DGDDI). A discreet revolution for the bottle that simplifies packaging and reduces the carbon footprint of wines.
Moving the Marianne symbol from the capsule to the cork stopper
This innovation was born from the combination of two complementary areas of expertise.
In 2024, Amorim France partnered with 2Pack, a company based near Toulouse specialising in capsules and packaging solutions for wine and spirits bottles.
2Pack holds the fiscal approval issued by the French Directorate General of Customs and Indirect Taxes, authorising it to apply the Marianne emblem. This marking certifies that excise duties have been paid by the bottler, whether a winegrower, wine merchant or cooperative winery. The company has a production capacity of 20 million fiscalised cork stoppers per year.
By combining this regulatory expertise with its expertise in cork stoppers, Amorim has been able to move Marianne from the capsule to the cork stopper and offer a completely redesigned fiscal marking solution.
A reduced carbon footprint
The fiscalised cork stopper primarily addresses an environmental priority that has become central to the wine industry: reducing packaging to what is strictly necessary. “For winegrowers, this stopper removes several very practical constraints: there is no longer any need for an overcapsule, there is one less material to purchase and store, no heat tunnel is required, maintenance is reduced and one operation is removed from the bottling line. Taken together, these benefits really make a difference, especially for large production runs,” explains Franck Autard, Managing Director of Amorim France.
These benefits enable winegrowers to create a more coherent bottle: lighter packaging, sealed with a natural and recyclable material.
This development is also clearly visible to consumers. The exposed bottle neck immediately highlights the eco-design approach, while cork, a natural and recyclable material, takes centre stage once again. The Marianne emblem remains visible on the stopper and the opening ritual remains unchanged: the bottle evolves without losing the familiar codes of wine.
